Member Spotlight: Velasquez Family Coffee
It truly is a family affair at Velasquez Family Coffee. Husband and wife team, Guillermo and Cathy Vasquez, started the company in 2001 and source their coffee from the family farm in Honduras where Guillermo grew up.
The imported coffee is freshly roasted in small batches by a master roaster and they distribute their coffee through a free monthly delivery service to homes and offices throughout the Twin Cities and by mail order anywhere else. The family also offers a fundraiser program for schools and other community groups, so keep them in mind if you find yourself on a committee at church or school.
As usual, it is other MetroIBA members who are our greatest advertisers, and such is the case with the Velazquez family. Introduced by another member, they welcomed the opportunity to network with other independent local businesses and have participated in several small business webinars. “We’re also grateful for the ways MetroIBA pools our voices through advocacy work and marketing efforts,” says Cathy Velazquez Eberhart.
“We love connecting our customers with our family in Honduras, sharing how coffee is grown, and news about life in Honduras,” she goes on to say. “It is inspiring to be part of building a fairer economy based on relationships, even across international borders. And we are grateful to be part of a vibrant local and independent economy here in Minnesota.”
As far as shopping local, the MetroIBA directory is the first place they look for businesses that might fill a need. They are member of Mississippi Market and “appreciate all of the independent restaurants, breweries and other independent businesses in the region that make this such a great place to live.”
And, they definitely know the value of MetroIBA networking first hand. Cathy and Guillermo met Steven Berg of StevenBe at their very first networking event. Cathy says, “he asked if we’d be interested in developing a custom coffee blend for his yarn store. We’ve been happily providing coffee to the store ever since.”
